Beyond the Appearances, a collective exhibition, explores a penetrating glance at the power of the visual and how the artist creates an inner world of beauty and illusion. The opening reception of Beyond the Appearances will be held on February 07 at 6:30 and run until February 18 2019.

New York, NY Jan 14 2019 — In the wide social landscape of New York, imagery and visual cues provide us with a meaning and story, but what exactly lies underneath this visage? In Beyond the Appearances, Saphira & Ventura Gallery plans to unveil its mysteries. Guests at the gallery will be in contact with the abstract works of Katya Leonovich, a New York based artist and fashion designer. Leonovich’s pieces incorporate her of art and fashion into a concept of creating what she refers to as “moving art” in order to develop new expressions. Known for her multi-media work in which she exploits an array of mediums, the gallery will exhibit the works by Nita Patel’s abstract work which embodies the unknowns which human beings struggle to untangle The landscape photographer, Emerson Murakami, will likewise be exhibited in this exhibition. The works presented being his remarkable Namibia series, capturing the stunning view of the Namib Desert in a new light. Exploring the field of water, French painter, Bernard Pinesoil oncanvas seascapes will be featured, seascapes that capture the versatile waters of the French Riviera where the artist grew up and is currently based, with these works will be the fascinating and surreal works by Alfonso Segovia, a master of many techniques, whose seascapes captures an excellent perspective of the beauty of the sea as well its dynamic power. When it comes to city life and cosmopolitan depictions, Abe Shainberg, a local artist, will have his picturesque water colors on display. While Shainberg depicts New York, Miami based artist, Monica Mendes presents her Favela series which highlights the prevailing social differences in Brazilian society by her stylistic approach to the cityscape of Rio de Janeiro. Beyond the Appearances will likewise feature a collection of three aboriginal artists; Lucy Ward, Josie Kunoth Petyarre, and Ngarra. Ward’s work capturing a primitive approach in figurative depictions and expression while Petyarre’s work capture the obscure techniques of abstract tribal aesthetic. Ngarra, a leading artist in the Australian market, combines an element of both aesthetic beauty and puzzling technicality which left him a legacy which still endures. The gallery will also be presenting its collection of naive paintings by Ernane Cortat, Ignacio de Nega, Edna Araraquara and Ernani Pavanelli. Together these artists’ works welcome the viewer to see what is beyond the technicality of naive art and see the contents as opposed to the mere techniques. Two sculptors will likewise have their works present in this exhibition, Jennifer Court and Rose de Ganay, two French sculptors of different approaches. Court’s pieces provide the viewer with a touch of nostalgia and captures the innocence of childhood through a humble and accessible technique. De Ganay’s work, on the other hand, brings the viewer to a more perplexing approach, experimenting with medium and color, her sculptures have much more hidden beyond its appearance.
